Saturday, May 5 is more than just Cinco de Mayo! It’s a veritable fiesta of books! The 5th of May is the annual Free Comic Book Day, and this year, one of Dark Horse Comics’ two freebies is a Star Wars/Serenity book, and Marvel is putting out an Avengers freebie. Get out there and get your free comics!

Also, May 5th is the birthday celebration for San Diego’s best sci-fi / fantasy / mystery / horror bookstore, Mysterious Galaxy. There will be authors, free books, and cake!

The next monthly meeting for San Diego Fan Force will be on Saturday, April 21st. We’ll be at the new location for Joe’s Pizza at 5 PM:

Before the meeting, we’ll be at the “Attack of the Authors Tour” at Mysterious Galaxy bookstore at 2 PM with author Jason Fry. Come for the signing and festivities!

DK Books is bringing Jason Fry, author of the latest SW essential guide (Essential Guide to Warfare), as well as the recent TPM Expanded Visual Guide and The Secret Life of Droids to San Diego on the weekend of April 20-22 with three stops, complete with 501st Legion and Rebel Legion visits, prizes, and more!

The March meeting for San Diego Fan Force is coming up on Wednesday, March 21 at 7 PM at the Kearny Mesa Souplantation. We’ll be savoring the highlights of WonderCon and planning the carpools for our trip on Saturday up to the Discovery Science Center! San Diego Fan Force will be hitting the road on March 24 to check out the Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination exhibit at the Discovery Science Center in Orange County. In addition to the normal Star Wars exhibit, that Saturday will also be a fan day with some extra fun. RSVP your group rate tickets in our discussion thread on the forums and plan out carpooling.

San Diego Fan Force is going to see Episode I: The Phantom Menace 3D on opening weekend! There will be a midnight screening on Feb 9, as well as a regular hours screening on Friday Feb. 10th at 6:15 pm (get your ticket now with the link on the forums!). 3D!

The January meeting for San Diego Fan Force will be held on Friday, January 20. Members visited the forum thread here to vote on their available dates/times to have a meeting at Pat & Oscar’s at 6 PM on Friday, to be followed by watching the new Lucasfilm movie, Red Tails, at the Mira Mesa Edwards cinema at 8PM.
